Carpet comes in a variety of types. One of the more commonly used carpet types is the cut pile. Created by twisting yarn tightly together, cut pile carpet comes in a variety of plain colours and has a flecked texture. This is recommended for people who are looking for a general purpose carpet that can be used around the home.
A velvety carpet that is smooth to the touch, with a silky feel. This is typically used for bedrooms that require a grand and luxury feel. Velvet pile is on the expensive side due to the high grade material required. This is generally a carpet style we do not recommend.
Shag pile is created in the same way as cut pile. It is thicker due to the longer tufts. Although this carpet is becoming more popular recently. We do not recommend it at St. John's Carpets as it tends to flatten quickly due to being thicker and then doesn't look as good as standard cut pile. Additionally, shag pile is more expensive.
Saxony is great for bedrooms. However, it can flatten quickly, similar to shag pile. This is because it is made in the same style and is thicker.
A loop pile is a durable and general purpose carpet. A looped pile wears better than other carpet types. It is wider and heavier, with the loops being either i uniform or a variety of sizes for a more textured look and feel.
